This year, Pastor Steve teamed with Steve & Dawn Mathews (United Baptist Church) from the Catawba River Association and Josh Frazier (The Orchard Church) from the Haywood Baptist Association to travel to the state of Sarawak in Malaysia. This journey was different from our trip to Uganda, in that we traveled to Malaysia to meet and work with local church leaders in several cities and in remote jungle long-houses. Pictured to the left in the back row are Josh Frazier (blue shirt), to his right, Dawn Mathews and her husband Steve Mathews. Our mission was exploratory with the intend to discover ways in which we could better support and encourage the believers in both high density urban areas as well as remote jungle locations. We ministered among the Chinese, Malay and Iban peoples and were received with greatest Christian charity wherever we went.
Highlights of this year's trip:
Proclaimed the gospel in Kuching and surrounding urban region, in multiple churches. Kuching boast a population of over 570,000.
Met with local church leaders and team to discuss challenges and explore opportunities for future outreach.
Conducted Micro-Enterprise training for believers in local churches in Sri Aman.
Traveled to remote jungle locations where we ministered to multiple long houses churches of the Iban peoples. We met with church leaders and explored the challenges in discipleship, church training and evangelization.
Experienced local cuisines and customs along the rivers that snake through the jungle.
